What do you love about your neighborhood and community in District 14?

Dr. Shanelle (DS): What I love most about District 14 is I have access to everything from shopping and dining to parks and beautiful vegetation and wildlife.

Why are you running?

DS: I thought about running over a year ago then I put it out of my head. I was bothered by the current state of politics and continued to think about running. State Senator John Mannion called my husband early in January 2021 and asked him if he would run. He explained to the Senator, you don’t want me, you want my wife. From that point on, I decided to take action. I considered the time commitment and the family sacrifice and made the decision to move forward with my candidacy. I spent most of my life advocating for students as an educator, now I’m choosing to advocate for my neighbors and community members as a candidate.

What have been your main sources of inspiration or motivation to run for County Legislator?

DS: My source of inspiration comes from the love and support of my family and being an example and role model for my daughters.

As a leader, what are you most excited to advocate for for members of your district?

DS: I am most excited to advocate for transparency in the political process and to represent the needs of my community. I want their voices to be heard. I want their needs to be met.

Do you have family life or any other personal biographical information you’d like to share? Does your family live in Onondaga County?

DS: I am originally from Southern California but I was able to convince my brother and his family to move here. Also, my daughter and my granddaughters moved here almost two years ago. I love having my children here. I’m hoping my son will eventually return.

What is your favorite local summertime activity?

DS: My favorite local summertime activity has to be the concerts in the park! They are outstanding! There’s nothing like live music.
